I caught this enjoyable photo gallery piece from Moviefone recently and especially appreciated the way it deftly showed us (in pictures that speak louder than any words) some of the best makeup transformations in film. From Anthony Hopkins in the current Hitchcock, to Streep as The Iron Lady, to Ben Kingsley's Gandhi -- whose biopic makeup do YOU think was the best?
My vote would probably be for the makeup for Charlize Theron's terrific turn in Monster -- it doesn't cross the line into overdone, unlike Hopkins' as Hitchcock, which somehow just doesn't quite work for me. The makeup job is terrific, but it's like, for me, Hopkins' face just doesn't always lend itself to these extreme transformations. I love Hopkins as an actor, but I had the same reaction when he played Nixon, so maybe it's just me?
